It was the combination of names, when I was eight years old, in a car magazine at a local store in Casco, Maine that first got me hooked on drag racing.

I read a magazine that featured Wild Willie Borsch and the WInged Express having a match race against Rich Gauscho and the Pure Hell fuel altered. Wild WIllie happened to win that race (2 out of 3) as I recall, but the concept of a man driving with one arm with that cool nickname made me want to be just like him when I grew up.

Later the Snake and Mongoose funny cars caught my attention, and "The Boss" was the name of the Sox and Martin car of that time period.

Of them all, the Winged Express made the single largest impression on me. Kind of like a bit of religion and speed mixed together with a big burly driver who was "wild".
