View Full Version : Plastic Oil Pressure line illegal
I just read in another forum that plastic oil pressure gauge lines are illegal in NHRA.
Can anyone confirm this and what is the IHRA rule on this matter?
Yeh, I know, I spelled Plastic wrong in the title
But then Mike came home and fixed it ;) - MS
Thanks Mike:)

I don't know but I wouldn't run one I don't like cleaning oil up.
A copper line is cheap and is much better.

Dave
I have been told that we can't have plastic lines for the oil pressure gauge but the rulebook doesn't say anything about it under the gen. regulations. Maybe I missed it but I looked it over pretty good. Good question! I will have to find out for sure since I'll be working in tech! (Which means all Mopars will fail) :D
Mark--
Can you also inquire out about locking transmission dip sticks.
Thanks

I thought in years past plastic was allowed when the gauge was mounted outside of the car and copper or braided was needed when mounted inside the car.

Talked to Joe this morning and he agreed that the rulebook doesn't say one way or the other. I haven't heard back from Mike Baker at IHRA HQ yet. The rule book doesn't say we need locking dipsticks either. Dave, send an email to mbaker@ihra.com if you want the scoop. See ya

Subject: tech question - not in rulebook?
> Mr. Baker
> I race in Mod at New England Dragway and someone asked me if they could
use plastic oil lines to their gauge but I couldn't find anything on it in
the 2002 IHRA rulebook. We were told they had to be copper by NED tech.
Which is correct? Thanks
I asked him why the plastic is OK to use if dangerous.
So Plastic IS IHRA LEGAL..... Correct
Definately NOT LEGAL in NHRA. 2002 rulebook Page 197, section 1:10 "metal or steel braided line mandatory
