get a dana 60 cheaper and way more durable, yu can buy a race dana60 for the price of a 9 in ford chuck.

I went with the Dana 60 from Strange. Bought it through Tim's Speed & Custom in Nashua. The pinion on the 9" Ford sets low in relation to the ring gear, so more power is needed to turn it.
We've had good luck with a beefed up 12 Bolt...you know Chebby;)
It is the most effecient rear end out of the 3.
I think the Ford 9 inch is the strongest...
Dana's seem to do well in the MOPAR's but look what powering them.....LOL

Calm down Bob!!!!! I am trying to reason with him. Most of the time those Chebby peoples need a little extra class time. Have patience! It will all work out in the end.

Grampa Mike,
Probably your best bet for straight drop in is Moser. They have bolt in 12 bolts for about 1600 or so.

Although these things are getting hard to find, a good Dana 60 is a great rear end. It is a heavy bastard, but solid as anything.
We've run the 9" in our '67 for years now with 4.88 gears in it. This year we'll be pushing high 8-second power in a car that tips the scales at 2950 with a 150 lb. driver. It held up to 9.30 power so why not ;-)
Later!

Mike, only hard to find in a salvage yard. Strange or any of the other aftermarket guys will build one with new axle tubes, ends and all the innards. You supply your brakes or they will.

I am very happy with my Currie 9". Currie was the only vendor that would make me a custom rear end without holding me liable for the measurements. They know exactly where to place the spring pads, they know how long the tubes are and they are great to work with. When I got the rear end it bolted right in...no hassles.
They are not local, but they deliver to your door. Their turn time was about 3 weeks when I ordered mine.
I considered the Dana, but the 70lb weight handicap was not worth the cost savings. There must be a reason the Ford rear is the most popular in drag racing...
