Newsflash:

Simpson is no longer going to re-cert their belts, so chuck'em after 2 years.

This has no connection to the Dale Earnheardt death...it's a money thing. Too expensive and time consuming.

Just an FYI

I called RJS and they wanted $48 to redo mine. Well, when you factor in shipping back and forth to Ohio it's cheaper to buy new. You don't have to chuck the old ones as someone could use them in a car that's 11.50 or slower.

What do you mean they could be used in a car 11.50 or slower???????? I had to get new belts this year. My understanding is if the belts were out of date they need to be replaced. Doesn't matter what ET the car is doing.

That's Right Ted. If they've got a date, they need to be replaced every 2 years. If you put those belts in a 16-second car, they'd still need to be replaced.

Also according to RJS they can only be recertified twice. After that the hardware is no good!!!!!!!!!!! Honest! That's what I was told when I tried to have them done for the third time! So I bought a set of Simpson. At least I got $100.00 out of Simpson for the National ET win! Paid for the belts! Will have to buy new for next year.

Straight from the IHRA 2002 Rule book

Pg 124

SYSTEM MUST BE UPDATE AT TWO YEAR INTERVALS FROM DATE OF MANUFACTURE, FOR ALL ENTRIES REQUIRING SYSTEM. ( All cars that are NOT required by class requirements to use SFI 16.1 driver restraint system do not need belts updated. )

So according to the rule book, if your car doesn't require the belts, but you have them, you can run them forever. As long as you don't run quicker than 11.50, there is no need to update the belts every 2 years.
