OK - put your thinking caps on. Last year my EGT readings were about 1440 plus or minus. This year, same engine, same weather readings it reads 1330 +/-. The only thing I can think of is I opened up the exhaust ports to match the header size. Any thoughts on this?
I don't know that much about EGT readings but......
You car picked up when you switched converters. Could it be that your engine is working in a different more efficient RPM range?
I'm sure MR. Bill could give you some insight.
You know them MOPAR drivers are experienced in EGT stuff being so full of Hot Air themselves. ;)

Did you have to bring up EGT readings? Mine were UGLY this weekend. Boy my carbs are way out in left field withthe new heads.
Higgy, how far away from the head are your EGT's? If they are 1" to 2" away last year's 1440 Degrees seems a little high. How did the car run compared to similiar conditions last year? Just the torque convertor and header change?
Is it possible that the better flow out of your combustion chamber is creating a better flow into? More air pulled through the carb is going to draw more fuel. This will richen your mixture and reduce the EGT. But then again after the way my car ran on Sunday I must be clueless.
This really looks like a question for Al. TOP38 where are you?

I installed the sensor the recommended distance from the head. The engine is as I left it last year except for the minor head work. Was just curious what everyone else thought about it. Maybe opening up the exh. ports did it?

Egt readings can be very misleading, I might ask a few questions first: Are all the temps 1440 or just one cyl? In a pro stock application 1400 spells piston death! I have also seen high temps from being rich because the fuel is burning in the pipes and heating up the sensor. Steve Cultrera
